Scott Chema and Paul Newton first met working as PAs in Sacramento’s independent film industry. The two have been working together ever since. Together, Scott and Paul produced and premiered a feature length film, as well as a number of sketches and short form web series.

While both Scott and Paul enjoy being a part of an actual production, whether it be directing a project, producing it, or simply working on set, it is the writing and building of new worlds, stories and characters that truly motivate both Scott and Paul.

Between the two, Scott and Paul have written dozens of scripts, including over a half dozen together. Currently, Scott and Paul are focused on a new Science Fiction Comedy series, currently titled, Universal Mistakes.

Universal Mistakes

A Science Future Comedy Series

Inside the basement of a corporation existing outside the bounds of time and space, a team of low-level employees accidentally create an unauthorized universe. Obsessed with the seductiveness of their new universe and unable to destroy it, the group of slackers takes to exploring the depths of their new creation, all at the expense of their day-job’s productivity.

While experimenting with the fundamental building blocks of the universe inside a top secret laboratory, scientists encapsulate their lab (as well as the immediate surrounding neighborhood) inside a bubble separating them from both time and space, causing a chain reaction ripping apart their home universe.

In order to maintain life inside the bubble, the survivors unlock the secrets of universe creation and the transportation portals needed in order to extract resources from the array universes.

Generations later, the heir to one of the founders is denied his rightful place in the upper echelons of the bubble power structure when he is humiliated and forced to head the lowly AV team.

This AV team, along with an assist from a pair of irresponsible janitors, accidentally creates an unauthorized universe that not only sucks in one of their own, but also threatens to turn the social structure inside the bubble on its head.

Before they can attempt to destroy the universe and all the evidence, the group must transport themselves into it in order to rescue their co-worker. During the rescue, an unhealthy fascination with the new universe (and it’s smokable plants) takes hold of the group.

Unable to destroy their unauthorized universe, the team is forced to live a dual life and risk exile to a dreaded dumpster universe. The life of lowly office workers by day, and amateur universal explorers by night.

Paul Newton is a family man who spent the bulk of his adult life focused on raising his children. Now that they are older and no longer need him as much, he fills that gaping hole in his soul by creating fictional people to raise in his scripts where he teaches them the value of right and wrong and the sustainability of raising ostriches for meat. Paul has won sketch writing competitions and the May 2018 employee of the month.
